Obituary

Selfia passed into the loving arms of the Lord on October 15, 2026, in Poth, Texas, at the age of 92. She was born on September 21, 1934, in Poth, Texas, to Francisco Guevara, Sr. and Candida Hinojosa Guevara. Life took her on many adventures, from California to Texas, but Poth was always home.

Selfia graduated from Poth High School in 1953 and proudly enlisted in the United States Army in May 1959. She completed her basic training at Fort McClellan, Alabama, before being assigned to the Presidio of San Francisco, where she served as a clerk typist in the Adjutant General's Office at Sixth Army Headquarters. Her dedication and abilities earned her a promotion to Specialist Fifth Class (SP5), an achievement of which she was especially proud.

During her military service, Selfia enjoyed a number of memorable experiences. She represented the Army in recruiting events, participated in drill team competitions, and was selected to represent the Army at the 1960 Winter Olympic Games in Squaw Valley, Nevada. She also had the opportunity to take an Army helicopter tour of San Francisco and participated in the 1961 Chinese New Year Parade. In 1962, she received a Certificate of Achievement recognizing her outstanding performance of duty. She was honorably discharged that same year, carrying with her many fond memories and a lasting pride in her service to her country.

Following her military service, Selfia found her way back to Texas, spending time in Houston and eventually coming home to Poth. She later attended beauty school, beginning a career that would become one of the great joys of her life. After returning to Poth in 1970, she worked at La Petite Beauty Salon for seventeen years before opening Selfia's Beauty Salon in September 1989. She proudly owned and operated her salon for 34 years, building lasting friendships with the customers who came through her doors. Selfia loved having her own business and was deeply grateful to her customers for their friendship, loyalty, and support throughout the years.

Selfia was also a gifted artist with a lifelong love of drawing and painting. She enjoyed sharing her talent with those she loved, often creating beautiful works of art for her family members to cherish. Her other interests included reading and spending time with her family.

Selfia was also a woman of faith and her Catholic faith was an important part of her life. She was a longtime member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Poth, where she participated in the Catholic Daughters, Altar Society, and church choir. She dedicated more than 30 years to singing in the choir. In her later years, she continued practicing her faith at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Selfia was preceded in death by her parents, Francisco Guevara, Sr. and Candida Guevara; her brothers, Francisco Guevara, Jr. and Oscar Guevara; and her sisters, Mary Devora, Jovita Escamilla, and Lilly Devora.

She is survived by her children, Sonia Lucio and husband Jose, and Carlos Francisco Jimenez and wife Monica; her grandchildren, Arron Jimenez and wife Alicia, Nathan Jimenez, Sara Munjack and husband Nate, Dominic Jimenez, Eric Munjack, Jose Andres Lucio, and Marizelle Lucio; and her great-grandchildren, Colton, Alexandria, and AJ. She will also be fondly remembered by numerous nieces and nephews as well as countless family, customers, and friends.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 22, 2026, beginning at 10:00 am at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Poth, Texas, with a Rosary recited at 10:30 am. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am. Interment will directly follow at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Cemetery.
