Rudy R. Herrera passed away peacefully at his home in Floresville, Texas, on July 15, 2026, at the age of 87. He was born on June 4, 1939, in Floresville, Texas, to Josephine Rodriguez and Juan Herrera.
Rudy dedicated his life to serving those around him. A devoted civil servant and an even more devoted family man, he was known for his generous heart and his willingness to give the shirt off his back to help others. A true jack of all trades, Rudy possessed a wealth of knowledge and was always ready to lend a helping hand. Family and friends knew they could depend on him for guidance, support, or simply a kind word. Through his quiet strength and tireless work ethic, he instilled in those around him the values of independence, perseverance, and hard work.
Those who knew Rudy also knew he could be a little grouchy from time to time—and he wore that reputation proudly. Whether it was a well-timed grumble, a playful complaint, or one of his trademark looks, it was all part of his charm. Beneath that tough exterior was a man with an enormous heart, a sharp wit, and a deep love for his family. More often than not, his gruffness was followed by a smile, a laugh, or an act of kindness.
Above all, Rudy cherished his family. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather whose kindness, generosity, and unwavering support touched countless lives. He shared a loving marriage of 67 years with his beloved wife, Stella, and together they built a family rooted in love, faith, and devotion. His steady presence, gentle spirit, and compassionate heart will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. A faithful member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Rudy's faith and his love for his family remained the foundation of his life.
Rudy was preceded in death by his parents, Josephine Rodriguez Barosh, Edward Barosh, and Juan Herrera; and by his parents-in-law, Dimas and Eva Estrada, and Rudolpho Orosco.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Stella Orosco Herrera; his children, Anna Marie Garcia (Ray), Cynthia Ann Lazarine, Arthur R. Herrera, and Eva Jean Davis (Robert); his grandchildren, Timothy Salinas (Samantha), Christopher Salinas (Brittany), Cody Garcia (Roxanna), Zoe Garcia, Bryanna Lazarine, Adam Herrera, Ryan Herrera, Emily Davis, and Hannah Davis; and his great-grandchildren, Macie Salinas, Joshua Salinas, Clarissa Garcia, Isabel Lazarine, Caden Medina, Masen Medina, and his expected great-grandson, Knox.
He is also survived by his brother, Juan R. Herrera (Mary); his brothers- and sisters-in-law, Rudy and Elvira Orosco and Rosie Flores; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and many dear friends who will forever cherish his memory.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and staff of Trinity Hospice for the compassionate care, kindness, and dignity they showed Rudy throughout his time in their care. Your professionalism and genuine concern brought comfort not only to Rudy but also to his entire family, and your support will never be forgotten.
A visitation will be held at 5:00 pm on Monday, July 27, 2026, at Franklin Funeral Home and the Holy Rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 28, 2026 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Interment will immediately follow at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery.
Rudy's legacy of faith, generosity, hard work, unconditional love for his family, and even the occasional grumble will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. We know that if he were here today, he'd probably tell us not to make such a fuss—but we will miss him every day.
