Obituary

Roger Criswell passed away peacefully in his home in Floresville, Texas on April 2, 2026, at the age of 85. He was born on October 4, 1940 in Columbia Heights, Minnesota to Vernon and Clara Criswell.

Roger was a man full of laughter and life, known for his adventurous spirit and his ability to find joy in the simple things. He had a green thumb that many admired, and he found great peace outdoors among the many fruit trees he enjoyed growing. On any given evening or weekend you could find him in the stands or at a ballfield cheering on one of his grandchildren in one of their activities. These were the things he looked forward to most. He was also an incredible cook and baker, and some of his most cherished moments were spent in the kitchen baking alongside his grandchildren.

Roger graduated from Greenway High School in 1959, and then he served in the United States Air Force, an experience that helped shape the man he would become. He later devoted his working years to the United States Postal Service, serving his community with dedication both in working the counter and then later keeping the machines running smoothly. He spent many of his working years in Austin, Texas raising his family, and then later retired to Floresville.

Roger joined the Catholic church in 1998 where he continued to grow his faith through his later years. He lived out that faith daily in both word and deed and he will be deeply missed by all who had the honor of knowing him.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon and Clara Criswell; his daughter, Joelle Criswell; and his siblings, Verna Criswell, Robert Criswell, David Criswell, and Myrna Potton.

He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Mary Criswell. He also leaves behind his children, Jenna Ulrich and husband Jonathan, and Ashley Lister and husband Cody. His legacy continues through his beloved grandchildren, Joseph “Joey” Ulrich, Juliette Ulrich, Jillian Ulrich, Noah Lister, Declan Lister, Isaiah Lister, and Felicity Lister, who brought him immense joy. He is also survived by his siblings, Marian Haines and Connie Daigle, brother in laws, sister in laws, along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends who will all cherish his memory.

Visitation will be held on April 9, 2026 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Poth, Texas beginning at 9:30 am, with a Rosary to be recited at 10:00 am and a Funeral Mass to follow at 10:30 am. A private inurnment will be held at a later date.
