Richard “Rick” Castro passed into his eternal rest on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, in Floresville, Texas, at the age of 71. He was born on December 2, 1954, in Floresville, Texas, to Reynaldo Castro and Alejandra Onofre.

A lifetime resident of Floresville, Rick was a talented artist who enjoyed drawing and painting, but his talents extended well beyond a canvas. Mechanically gifted and skilled with his hands, he could work on just about anything, from lawnmowers to cars, and took great pride in figuring out how things worked and getting them running again.

Rick had a lifelong love for anything with an engine. He especially loved his motorcycle and his beloved ’56 Bel Air, which his family jokingly knew might have ranked just a little higher than everything else. He enjoyed drag racing and, in his younger years, horseback riding and paintball. When he wasn’t working on something or enjoying his cars, Rick loved fishing with his family and watching tennis, skating, and NASCAR. He had a special place in his heart for Dale Earnhardt, Sr.

Above all, Rick treasured the time he spent with those he loved. Whether they were gathered together, headed out fishing, or simply sharing the everyday moments that become treasured memories, his family was an important part of his world. Rick was also a man of faith and a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Floresville.

Rick is preceded in death by his father, Reynaldo Castro; and sister, Hilda Martinez.

He is survived by his loving wife, Olga Castro, and his mother, Alejandra Onofre. He will be forever cherished by his beloved children, Richard Ray Castro, Gilbert Brown (Kathy), Jennifer De Leon (Alex), and Charles Brown (Michelle). He will be fondly remembered by his grandchildren, Lyrick Rivas (Ambree), Demrick Rivas (Sarah), Hagen Brown, Zyrick Rivas (Delilah), Brooke Thakur (Anubhav), Donivan Brown (Rachelle), and Kyra Brown (Jeffrey); and great-grandchildren, Cypress, Jaxsel, Koda, Zaylah, Kalyxa, Layla, Mavis, Jade, and Baby Thakur. Rick is also survived by his siblings, Nelda Garza (Mike) and Ross Castro (Adela); his nieces and nephews, Zena Orona (Andres), KiraLee Solis (Jay), Eric Castro (Malinda), and Erica Castro; as well as numerous family and friends.

Visitation will be held at 9:30 am on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Floresville, with the Holy Rosary to be recited at 10:00 am. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 am. Entombment will directly follow at Sacred Heart Mausoleum.
