Ricardo "Richard" Escobar passed peacefully into the loving arms of the Lord on June 29, 2026, in Floresville, Texas, at the age of 78. He was born on January 16, 1948, in Floresville to Zaragoza Escobar Sr. and Lucilla Sauceda Escobar.
A lifelong resident of Floresville, Richard was proud to call Wilson County home. He spent many years working as a truck driver, and whether behind the wheel of his beloved Peterbilt or visiting with friends and neighbors, Richard never met a stranger. His warm personality and genuine kindness allowed him to connect with people from all walks of life, and he had a remarkable gift for making everyone feel welcome. A faithful member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and a Sacred Heart Catholic School alumnus, Richard's faith remained an important part of his life throughout the years.
Richard's greatest joy was his family. He and his beloved wife, Alicia, shared 39 wonderful years of marriage, building a loving blended family filled with laughter, support, and countless cherished memories. In his younger years, he enjoyed dancing and listening to conjunto music, and those who knew him will always remember his outgoing nature, easy smile, and love of being surrounded by the people he cared about.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Lucilla and Zaragoza Escobar Sr.; his children, Dominic Lee Estrada and Isenia Aneida Sotelo; his mother-in-law, Fidelia Castellano Estrada; his daughter-in-law, Frances Marie Salazar; and his son-in-law, Ruben Guerra.
He is survived by his loving wife, Alicia Escobar. He is also survived by his children, Ricardo E. Escobar (Barbara), Michelle Guerra, Pete V. Rodriguez III (Lisa), Petra Michelle Rodriguez (Rolando Garza), Jose Sotelo, Felia Ysela Lerma (Kenneth), and Blanca Sotelo (Leonel Leija). He will be fondly remembered by his many cherished grandchildren, Martin, Alejandra, Melissa (Benjamin), Kevin (Abigail), Amanda (Charlie), John Paul Lugo, Pete, Lucian, Kane, Mia, Bojavon, Xavier, Danielle, Alexis, Emily, Joseph, Avianna (Seth), Dominic, Kenneth (Savannah), Kendra, Spencer, Alicia, Jay, John, Jasmine, Jacob, Blanca, Jeremiah, Raelly, and Gabriel, as well as his numerous great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind his brother, Zaragoza Escobar Jr. (Amalia); his brothers-in-law, Tony Estrada and Joe Estrada (Lucy); his sisters-in-law, Aurora Cantu and Amelia Estrada; along with many extended family members and dear friends who will miss him greatly.
Visitation will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, July 9, 2026, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with the Holy Rosary to be recited at 10:30 am. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am.
