LaJuana Newnam-Leus went into the loving arms of the Lord on Saturday, February 18, 2023 in San Antonio, Texas at the age of 85 years old. She was born to devoted parents, Lawrence & Bessie Warren on June 13, 1937 in Fort Hood, Texas. LaJuana was a longtime resident of Floresville, Texas and a cherished member of the community. She was born with a true servant’s heart and devoted her life to serving others. LaJuana was a proud member and former president of Floresville’s International Lions Club, Wilson County Historical Society, Texas Connection to the American Revolution Association, American Legion Auxiliary, and the Floresville Musical Club. She was also a member of the Atascosa Health Center Board of Directors, Camino Real de Los Tejas - Floresville Chapter, The Floresville Opry Association, Alamo Metro Chorus, Alamo Area Council of Governments, The Alamo Society, FHS Band and Athletic Booster Club, and Lions Sight Research Foundation Board. She also served as a former City of Floresville Councilwoman, a former Floresville Chamber of Commerce Director, and the Texas Historical Commissioner for Wilson County. LaJuana was also a woman of faith and active and loving member of the First Baptist Church of Floresville. She was a pillar of her community and a true South-Texas Legend.
LaJuana was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence & Bessie Warren and her husbands, William Newnam Sr and Norman Leus. She was also preceded by her beloved children, Clara M Zinsmeister & William Newnam Jr and by her siblings, D. Mac Warren, Jani Warren, Louis Warren, Larry Warren, and Russel Warren. She is survived by her loving daughters, Vera Richardson and husband Gary of Oklahoma and Sara LaRue Canady of Floresville. She will also be dearly missed by her siblings, Kathi and Lindy Hustedt of Florida and Kevin Warren of Pottsboro. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, LaTicia Spells, Megan Rogers, Krystle Samaj, Xanthippi Clark, J.P. Canady, Elisha Canady, Jeremiah Canady, Rebekah Klaus, Rachel Newnam, and William Newnam as well as her Great-Grandchildren, Clara Rogers, Everett Rogers, Scarlet Klaus, Pheneas Canady, Benjamin Canady, Knox Canady, Henrietta Canady, Josiah Canady, Olympia DeVito, Amerigo DeVito, and Egeo DeVito. LaJuana is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins as well as a community who will forever be changed because of her beautiful contributions to this world.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, February 25, 2023 at 10:00 am at the First Baptist Church of Floresville. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 and Interment will be held at Floresville City Cemetery.
