Jovita Guevara Escamilla

December 18, 1926 — November 10, 2023

Jovita Guevara Escamilla, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her loving family on November 10, 2023.  Jovita was born in Poth, Texas on December 18, 1926.  Jovita was preceded in death by her parents, Francisco Guevara Sr. and Candelaria Guevara of Poth, Texas; brother Francisco Guevara, Jr. and Oscar Guevara, sisters, Mary Devora and Lilly Devora and Jovita’s husband of 75 years, Genaro D. Escamilla.

Jovita is survived by her sister, Selfia Jimenez, daughter Oralia Vela and husband Carlos Vela; grandson Fabian Vela and wife Noella Vela; her son Edward Escamilla and his wife Josie Escamilla; granddaughter Jennifer Hand and husband Gregg Hand; great granddaughter Payton Hand; daughter Mary Ann Sieracki Walker and husband Scott Walker; granddaughter Chasity Andrews and husband John Andrews; great grandsons Preston Cope, Nathaniel Andrews and great granddaughter Kaylee Cope; granddaughter Dr. Nichole Sieracki Howe and husband Dr. Don Howe; great grandchildren Emma and Olivia Howe; son David Escamilla and wife Diane Escamilla and granddaughter, Diandra Escamilla.

Jovita was a member of the Floresville Sacred Heart Catholic Church and participated for many years in the Sacred Heart Guadalupana Society serving as the Treasurer. She was also well known for her exceptional talents as a seamstress. She stitched and decorated two Floresville Peanut Festival Princess dresses for her daughter and granddaughter. Many members of the community and family relied on her skills. She enjoyed caring for her plants and flowers as she had a green thumb, virtually growing plants from mere stems.  She was also a huge fan of the Dallas Cowboys Football Team, always making sure she never missed watching a game.  Jovita also looked forward to spear heading the Tamalada family gathering every year during the Christmas holidays.  Most of all, she enjoyed spending the last years of her life with her active grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held November 20, 2023, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. at the Franklin Funeral Home in Floresville, Texas.  A Mass will be held at the Floresville Sacred Heart Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m. on November 21, 2023, followed by Interment at the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Floresville, Texas.  Pallbearers are Fabian Vela, David Escamilla, John Andrews, Andres Lucio, Nathaniel Andrews and Harold Cope, Jr.  Honorary Pallbearers are Edward Escamilla, Carlos Vela, Preston Cope and Robert Vela, Scott Walker.
