On February 28, 2023, Josefina Saldana Herrera entered eternal rest, at her home surrounded by her loving family at the age of 80. Josefina was born on 11/12/1942 in Tahoka, Texas to parents Pilar Saldana and Nicolasa Silva Saldana. She married Billie J Herrera on November 18, 1961. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Josefina Is preceded in death by her husband, Billie Herrera Sr, her parents, Pilar & Nicolasa Saldana, her brothers Reymundo & Raul Saldana as well as her sisters, Dora S. Rodriguez and Amelia S. Martinez. She is survived by her children, Mary Jane Herrera (Louis), Billy Herrera Jr, Jesse Herrera Sr. (Frances), Grace Herrera (Dennis), Monica H. Garcia (Jesse), Ruben Herrera (Rachel), and Carlos R. Herrera (Amanda). She will also be greatly missed by her 12 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. She is survived by her siblings, Antonia S Perez (Antonio), Francisca Barrientez, and Jose Saldana Sr.
Josefina, along with her sisters, received their GED from St Phillips College in 1980. She was extremely proud of that accomplishment. Josefina was very active in her community where she served as Wilson County Coordinator for 30 years. She was an active member at Sacred Heart Catholic Church where she served as a lector, eucharistic minister, Guadalupana Society member, ACTS sister, choir member and pastoral council member. She also belonged to the Cursillo movement.
Music was her passion, she was extra proud of being a part of the Saldana Sisters singing group. The sisters played at numerous social functions for many years and even recorded a cd of their favorite songs. She also loved that her family was following in her musical footsteps. Josefina was loved by many and will be greatly missed by her children and family.
Services will be held at Franklin Funeral Home on March 8, 2023 with visitation starting at 5:30 pm followed by Rosary at 7:00 pm. A Funeral Mass to be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church at 10:30 am on March 9, 2023 with interment following at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be: Nicholas Pilar Arevalos, Geronimo Tunchez III, Daniel Herrera, Billy Herrera III, Jesse Herrera Jr, Anthony Herrera, William John Serna, and Mario Morones, Sr. Honorary Pallbearer is Paul Joseph Arevalos.
