Jose Silva Saldaña, Sr. passed away peacefully on June 26, 2026, in San Antonio, Texas, at the age of 80. He was born on March 23, 1946, in Floresville, Texas, to Pilar and Nicolasa Saldaña. A lifelong resident of Floresville, Jose was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend whose kindness and steady presence touched countless lives throughout his community. Jose dedicated many years as an employee and retired from the City of Floresville and as a bus driver for Floresville ISD, greeting students each morning on his bus route. Whether serving the City of Floresville or greeting students each morning on his bus route, Jose was known for his kind heart and unwavering dependability.
A man of deep faith, Jose was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, where he was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the ACTS community as well as an usher.
In his spare time, Jose enjoyed cheering on the Dallas Cowboys And the Houston Astros. He loved watching baseball, fishing, camping, barbecuing, and spending time outdoors. He also had a passion for a good western. Above all though, he treasured time spent with his family, creating memories they will forever cherish.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mickey Saldaña; his son Johnny Saldaña; his parents, Pilar and Nicolasa Saldaña; and his siblings, Antonia Perez, Dora Rodriguez, Raymundo Saldaña, Amelia Martinez, Josefina Herrera, and Raul Saldaña.
He is survived by his loving children, Richard and Maricruz Saldaña, Jose Saldaña, Jr. and Ana Saldaña, and Gilbert Saldaña. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren, Jose Saldaña III, Johnny Ray Saldaña, Johnathan Saldaña, Angelica Saldaña, Israel Saldaña, Maricruz Gavia, Joseph Gavia, Cora Saldaña, Greyson Saldaña, and Daniel Flores III; his treasured great-grandchildren, Mason Saldaña, Jason Saldaña, Ezekiel Saldaña, and Tobias Saldaña; his sister, Francis Barrientes; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will miss him greatly.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at 5:00 pm at Franklin Funeral Home in Floresville, with the Holy Rosary to be recited at 7:00 pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, July 2, 2026, at 10:00 am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Floresville. Interment will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery.
