Jed Arthur Maloy, Jr., age 66, of Floresville, Texas, passed away on Sunday, October 4, 2026. He was born on December 8, 1959, in Hobbs, New Mexico, to Joyce and Jed Maloy, Sr. Jed spent his early childhood in Luling, Texas, before moving with his family to Floresville at the age of 12, where he would become a familiar and beloved part of the community for more than five decades
To generations of Floresville residents, Jed was simply a part of Floresville. For decades, he was a familiar sight walking through town, almost always in his cowboy hat and, when the weather allowed, his signature duster. He seemed to know everyone, and just about everyone knew him. Whether he was headed to work, stopping by a local business, visiting with a friend, or simply making his way through town, Jed rarely went far without finding someone to talk to along the way.
Jed was a graduate of Floresville High School and a remarkably hard worker who took great pride in staying busy. Over the years, he worked in the Floresville school cafeteria, at local restaurants and businesses, and at the Camino Real workshop building furniture. He was also well known for mowing lawns, doing yard work, and lending a hand wherever there was work to be done. Jed liked to stay busy and was always looking for something useful to do.
A talented athlete, Jed competed in track and field through the Special Olympics and earned numerous medals over the years. He also enjoyed fishing, word searches, reading the Wilson County News, music, and being around people. But few things made him happier than dancing. Even after he began using a cane to get around, those who knew him joked that there was always a miracle on the dance floor because he didn't seem to need it once there was music playing.
More than anything, Jed loved people. He was friendly, outgoing, and always ready for a conversation. His circle stretched far beyond what even he could imagine. Over the years, many people in Floresville welcomed Jed into their homes, included him in holidays and family gatherings, looked out for him, and simply loved him as one of their own. Among them were the Popham, Joslin, Talley, and Clements families, who became an especially important part of Jed's Floresville family. That same sense of belonging extended to First Baptist Church of Floresville, where Jed was a member and was welcomed with open arms as a beloved part of the church family.
Over the years, Jed became more than a familiar face around Floresville; he became part of its story. His cowboy hat, his friendly conversations, his hard-working nature, and his unmistakable presence became woven into the community he called home. Jed leaves behind not only a family and many dear friends, but an entire community filled with memories of him. The mark Jed leaves on Floresville is a simple but meaningful one: he was known, he was valued, and he was deeply loved.
Jed is preceded in death by his father, Jed Maloy, Sr.; and brothers, Michael Maloy, Floyd Sattiewhite, and Jed Odom. He is survived by his mother, Joyce Maloy of Duncanville, Texas, and his siblings, Lue Maloy of Duncanville, Texas, Evelyne Schmidt of Ridgeland, Mississippi, Toni Allen of Duncanville, Texas, and Nycee Maloy of Batesville, Arkansas. Also surviving Jed are his brothers-in-law, D. Newkirk and Peter Schmidt. He will be fondly remembered by his nephews, Michael Maloy and wife Bovaby, Clem Maloy, Chris Maloy and wife Caroline, Michael Blackmon and wife Marian, Byron Blackmon and wife Shanteal, and Xavier Allen, and his nieces, Sharon Harper, La Toni Maloy, and Tanisha Allen. He is also survived by numerous great-nieces and great-nephews. He is also lovingly remembered by his Floresville family, the Popham, Joslin, Talley, and Clements families; and numerous friends throughout the community.
Visitation will be held at 9:00 am on Monday, October 12, 2026, at First Baptist Church in Floresville, Texas. A Funeral Service will follow at 11:00 am. Interment will directly follow at Floresville City Cemetery.
