Obituary

Gregorio “Goyo” Moreno passed away peacefully at his home in Floresville, Texas, on July 9, 2026, at the age of 78. He was born on November 6, 1947, in Papantla, Veracruz, Mexico, to Leodegario and Eleodora Moreno.

Gregorio made his home in Floresville for many years. He was well known for his love of gardening. As a nurseryman, he spent his life helping countless people grow flowers, trees, and gardens they could enjoy for years to come. He took great pride in caring for his own plants and found happiness in watching things grow. Through his kindness, hard word, and love of gardening, Gregorio made the world a lovelier place, one plant at a time.

Gregorio also had a special love for animals, especially his chickens and roosters. He took great pride in his home, where he enjoyed hosting family gatherings. Gregorio was known to welcome everyone with delicious food, laughter, and warm hospitality. He loved traveling, especially returning to his hometown in Mexico to visit family. Above all else, nothing brought him greater happiness than spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They were the pride and joy of his life. If Gregorio was not gardening, traveling, or spending time with family, you could find him at the casinos.

Gregorio was preceded in death by his parents, Leodegario Jaimes Moreno and Eleodora Garcia Sanchez; and his siblings, Armando Moreno and Selena Ines. He is survived by his loving wife, Maria Moreno. He is also survived by his children, Gregorio Moreno Jr., Nadia Garcia (Robert), Joshua Moreno, Armando Moreno (Megan), Eleodora Bates (Shelby B.), and Gabriella Upchurch (Neil). Gregorio will be fondly remembered by his grandchildren, Gregorio Macario, Isaiah (Emily), Jeremy (Shelby G.), Kelly, Katie, Jayla, Daylan, Harper, Avery, and Jubillation; and by his great-grandchildren, Oliver, Thomas, Samuel, Alaki, Ezekiel, and Julian. He is also survived by his siblings, Aristeo Moreno, Rosa Moreno, and Zoila Moreno; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and many dear friends.

A visitation will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. The Holy Rosary will be recited at 10:30 am and a Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am. Interment will directly follow at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery.
