Gladys Yosko Pawelek passed into her eternal rest on June 20, 2026, in Floresville, Texas, at the age of 86. She was born on August 18, 1939, in Poth, Texas, to John and Paulene Yosko. She attended and graduated from Poth High School in 1958. On October 21, 1961, she married Archie Alois Pawelek from Falls City, Texas. The couple lived in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Corpus Christi; and Irving, Texas, before settling in Lubbock, Texas, in 1976. Her last years were spent in Floresville, where she and her husband moved from Lubbock.

She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend whose quiet nature was matched only by the depth of her love for those around her.

Gladys had a lifelong appreciation for the outdoors and enjoyed staying active throughout her life. In high school she played sports and was captain of the women’s basketball team. An accomplished golfer, she was a two-time Women’s Golf Champion at Hillcrest Country Club, where she was a longtime member, and she achieved a hole-in-one—an accomplishment many golfers only dream of. She was also an avid bicyclist and a proud member of the Lubbock Bicycle Club. Her love of nature led her to become involved with the Lubbock Audubon Society, and her faith inspired her service through the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. A devoted Catholic, she served in many ministries throughout her life. She also owned and operated a beauty salon in Lubbock for over 10 years. Though naturally quiet and introverted, Gladys had a remarkably positive spirit. She always looked for the good in people and situations and shared that optimism with everyone fortunate enough to know her.

She is survived by her loving husband, Archie Pawelek; her beloved children, Michael Pawelek and Pamela Pawelek; her grandson, Anthony Pawelek; her sisters, Rose Ross and Dorothy Keelin; and numerous other relatives and friends who will cherish her memory.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Pauline Yosko; her brothers, John Yosko and George Yosko; and her sisters, Mary Zimmerman, Margaret Caldeway, Martha Mutz, and Leona Davis.

Our family extends our deepest thanks to the nurses, caregivers, and staff who cared for Gladys over the years, both at home and at Prairie Meadow Rehabilitation and Health Care Center. Your compassion, patience, and respect brought her comfort and peace, and we are truly grateful.

A visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 29, 2026, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Floresville. The Rosary will be recited at 10:30 a.m., and the Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Cemetery in Poth.
