Georgia Mae Popham Jones

July 24, 1936 — April 14, 2025

Georgia Mae Popham Jones, beloved mother, wife, daughter, sister, grandma, great grandma, and friend, passed away peacefully in her home alongside loved ones on April 14, 2025, at the age of 88. Born on July 24, 1936, in McCoy, Texas, Georgia was raised on a farm in Fairview, Texas, where she learned the values of hard work and resilience that would guide her throughout her life.

At the young age of 15, she left home to begin working at a restaurant in Floresville, Texas, where she lived in a small room above the establishment. It was there that her independent spirit began to shine.

On June 11, 1954, at the age of 17 Georgia married Johnny Jansky, with whom she shared five children: Kathy (Greg), Galen (Jennifer), Clifton, Danette (Roger), and Patricia (Rick). Her family was always the number one priority, and she dedicated her life to loving and caring for them. On July 3, 1993, Georgia married the love of her life, Charlie Jones. Together they shared nearly 30 joyful years before his passing on July 2, 2023. Georgia and Charlie built a beautiful life together, spending ten plus cherished years on their “Love Acre” in Granite Shoals, Texas, before returning to Floresville to be closer to family – but no matter where they lived their home was always the center of our family’s universe.

Georgia was the heartbeat of her family and the life of every party. She brought joy to every gathering, never missing an opportunity to sing and dance. Her warmth, strength, and infectious spirit left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her. She loved nothing more than rooting for her Dallas Cowboys through the good times and the bad, watching her favorite western movies, and playing a variety of games such as Pig, Rummikub, and Farkle, and the card game Golf – and of course late-night Skip-Bo with her grandchildren and great grandchildren when they would come visit and also when they would stay with her during the summer. She would play Solitaire on her IPad when she wasn’t watching her westerns and on those nights when she couldn’t sleep.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Fannie Francis Mann Popham and Sterling Price Popham; her siblings, Delbert Popham, Henry Popham, and Darlene Gilbert; her son-in-law, Gregory Likens; her granddaughter, Erica Mae Quick; and great-granddaughter, Nevaeh Jansky. She is survived by her sisters Carolyn (Johnny) and Joyce (Harley), and her sister-in-law Judy (Henry).

Georgia’s legacy lives on through her five children, her stepson Charles (Trudy), her grandchildren Justin (Courtney), Josh (Courtney), Jennifer (Ben), Janie (Shannon), Jason, Jeret (Ruth), Jonathon (Samantha), Brandi (Colby), Bethany (Sean), Courtney, Derek, Zachary (Avery), Michael, Dustin (Kate), Tanya (Carl) Gordon, Joshua, and Lauren, as well as thirty two great-grandchildren with one on the way, numerous nieces and nephews and all those who had the blessing of knowing her. Her memory will forever remain in our hearts.

A visitation will be held at 10:30 am on April 22, 2025 at Franklin Funeral Home and a funeral service will begin at 11:00 am.  Interment will directly follow at Floresville City Cemetery.
