Freddie Z. Hernandez

May 27, 1952 — July 5, 2025

Freddie Z. Hernandez, age 73, passed away peacefully at NE Baptist Hospital, San Antonio, Tx, surrounded by his loving family, on Saturday, July 5, 2025. Freddie was born on May 27, 1952, in Floresville, Texas to Cirilo Hernandez Sr. and Rosa Zavala.  Freddie lost his father at a very young age and became the man of the house as he was the eldest of his siblings.  He was a very protective person and was inseparable from his mother.  In fact, his mother Rosa passed away four years ago and on the exact same date as Freddie; still making them inseparable.

Freddie is preceded in death by his parents, Cirilo Hernandez Sr. and Rosa Zavala Cantu; his first love, Sylvia Stella Cervantez; younger sister, Rebecca Ann (Becky) Salazar, and sister-in-law Janie Hernandez.

Freddie, whom was affectionately known by his family as “Gordo”, is survived by his children, Leaticia Annaugh Hernandez (Eric M. “Guero” Seguin), Guadalupe Flores, Freddie (Irazema Palacios) Hernandez Jr.; brother, Cirilo (Janie) Hernandez Jr.; sisters, Hope H. (Juan) Garay, Charlotte H. Trinidad, and Bertha C. (Sostenes "Sonny") Salinas Jr.; multiple nephews and nieces plus, a multitude of loving cousins; best friends Andres Garcia and Manuel Acevedo.  However, Freddie considered his cousins, Robert Hernandez and Joe “Jo Jo” Tejeda, as his brothers rather than his cousins.  Additionally, his “Fur” babies (Dogs) named Shasta Bellah and Canela will also miss him dearly.

As a young man, Freddie worked in several jobs with different companies, but his passion was working as a car mechanic. After a stint with the Ford company, he continued to repair peoples’ vehicles.  He had a driven force and dedication to his craft.  He had a genuine love for what he did, it showed in his work and became very well known as “A Great Mechanic” in Floresville.  He viewed the repairs needed on the vehicles as obstacles and his determination to bring the vehicles back to life is what made him strive for perfection…. always going the extra mile.  Additionally, he had a great love for watching professional wrestling “The Luchas”, Kung Fu movies and classic westerns.  Plus, he always wanted to hit the “Big One” as he continuously purchased Lottery tickets only from the Squeak’s store in Floresville, TX.

A visitation will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, July 11, 2025 at Franklin Funeral Home and a funeral service will begin at 11:00 am.  Interment will directly follow at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery.  A reception will be held after the services at Sacred Heart Catholic Church Hall.  Pallbearers are: Freddie Hernandez Jr., Gabriel Hernandez, Eric M. “Guero” Seguin, Valentin Martinez Jr., Joe “Jo Jo” Tejeda, and Robert Hernandez
