Elsie Eve Hayden returned to her Heavenly Father on March 25, 2025, at the age of 100. Born on April 12, 1924, to loving parents, William & Ella Mitchem, she was the 11th of 12 children. Elsie was born in Memphis, Tennessee, but she was a longtime resident of South Texas, with San Antonio and Floresville serving as home. There, she cultivated her legacy as a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. Elsie was an active member of the American Legion, a volunteer at the Wilson County Jailhouse Museum, and contributed to the Boy Scouts of America alongside her husband, Frank. As a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Elsie lived a life of faith, service, and unwavering love for her family and community.
Elsie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Frank Kirby Hayden, and her sons, Will Cliff Markle, Elmer John Markle, James David Markle, and Gordon Eric Markle. She is survived by her beloved daughters, Elsie Eve Raught and Nancy Ann Markle Denning. She also leaves behind 25 grandchildren, 63 great-grandchildren, and over 50 great-great-grandchildren. Memories of her warm spirit, wise counsel, and deep love for family and faith will be forever cherished.
Visitation will be held at 9:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Pleasanton, Texas (636 Oakhaven Rd, Pleasanton, Texas 78064) on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, and a service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Interment will begin at 2:00 p.m. at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas.
