Obituary

Our sweet Dad, Elmer Otis Mills, went home to be with his Lord on December 30th , 2025 at the age of 94 years. Otis was born in Karnes City, Texas on October 17 th , 1931, and was the son of Richard R. Mills and Jessie Elizabeth Bruton Mills.

At just 18 years old, on March 7 th , 1950, he married the love of his life, Barbara Alene Burch. Together they shared 38 years, 1 month and 7 days of a deeply devoted marriage until her passing on April 14, 1988. As a dedicated husband and father of six beautiful children, he supported his young family in the road construction industry where he operated heavy machinery. He then began driving trucks to move mobile homes and would eventually own and operate his own mobile home moving business. After relocating back to Texas, he continued to drive a truck for various “outfits” (as he would call them). Being a truck driver would become his lifelong passion and career. During this time, you could always find him outside working on his trucks, changing tires or working on the engines. He could fix anything and his large strong hands were proof of that.

Many years after the passing of his beloved wife, Barbara, he would meet and fall in love with Wanda Kosub from St. Hedwig, Texas. Together they shared over 20 years until her passing in 2021. From there he lived a simple life in LaVernia, Texas, enjoying his true passion, playing the guitar with his band mates. He was quite the guitar player, playing some of his favorites like gospel and bluegrass. You could find him at local restaurants playing music with some of his best friends. His family loved to listen to him play and would go every chance they could. He was a kind gentle soul that loved everyone. We were all blessed to have had him in our lives, and he will be greatly missed by all who loved him.

Otis was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Barbara, his son, Otis, Jr., his grandson, Otis, III, his granddaughter Jeanette Hanner, his grandson Drew Porter, his wonderful wife, Wanda Kosub. He is survived by his beautiful daughters, Ann Mills Montgomery (Ted), Glenda Mills Hanner (Larry), Janice Mills Bambl (Werner), Christina Mills Formosa (Joseph), Karen Mills Molina (Elias), Helen Montgomery-Fidler, his 27 wonderful grandchildren, Ted Montgomery, Jr. (Lisa), Byron Montgomery (Rosie), Corey Montgomery (Marina), Melonie Montgomery Navarro (Juan), JJ Montgomery (Melissa), Faith Flores, Daphne Hanner Still (Cullen), Larry Hanner Jr., Franklin Hanner, Mackenzie Hanner Green (Hunter), Deanna Hanner, Camryn Hanner, Candy Bambl Holguin (Isidro), Werner Bambl (Mary), Karl Bambl (MJ), Heidi Bambl Wiggins (Cory), Joseph Formosa, Brittney Formosa, Chelsea Formosa, Alexandria Formosa Boon (Jack), Scott Formosa, Lacey Taylor Hummel (Brad), Keith Taylor (Jessica), Kelly Taylor Rodriguez (JoeJohn), Jeremy Smith, Katie Smith Preston (Bo), Cody Porter (Krystal), 36 sweet great-grandchildren and 2 precious great great-grandchildren.

A visitation will be held at 5:00 pm on Monday, January 5, 2025 at Sutherland Springs Baptist Church. A funeral service will take place at 10:00 am on Tuesday, January 6, 2025 at Sutherland Springs Baptist Church. Interment will directly follow at the Stockdale City Cemetery.
