Elia G. Longoria

Elia G. Longoria passed into the loving arms of the Lord on May 18, 2024 in Seguin, Texas at the age of 87 years old.  Elia was born in Seguin, Texas on July 16,1936 to Adela & Jose Longoria.  Elia was a proud lifetime resident of Nixon, Texas, where she spent her life selflessly taking care of her community as a caregiver to everyone who needed her.  She was also a woman of faith and an active member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Nixon.

Elia was lovingly known as “Flash” by her beloved nieces and nephews for her quick wit and readiness to go.  Whether it was a trip to the grocery store, out to eat or shopping she was ready in a flash.  She did not have children of her own but was a mother to those she loved.  She delighted in listening to her vinyl records, breakfast at McDonalds, her coffee throughout the day and especially her telenovelas.  She loved to cook and was always ready to make her specialties - pineapple cake with sticky icing, potato salad, enchiladas, tamales, deviled eggs and homemade tortillas.  And let's not forget the relish tray of black olives.  She lived life to the fullest without a doubt.  In her many travels, Elia enjoyed engaging in conversation that accompanied laughter with family and friends.  And even though 87 years seems like a lifetime, it went by way to fast.

Elia was preceded in death by her parents, Adela & Jose Longoria; her siblings, Maria Martinez, Maya Bustamante, and Guadalupe Zuniga; her nieces and nephews, Lucy Martinez, Diane Castillo, Armando Zuniga, and Christopher Leal; and her brothers-in-law, Jose Martinez, Gregorio Bustamante, Santiago Zuniga, and Rafael C. Leal.  She is survived by her sisters, Theodora “Lola” Leal of Nixon, Texas and Sally Garcia and husband Isaac of Rio Rancho, NM.  She will be especially missed by her nieces and nephews, Terry Martinez, Freddy Martinez, Adelle Fink, Sylvia Jackson, David Martinez, Janie Martinez, Carlos Martinez, Mary Jane Bustamante, Diana Zuniga, Isabel Hernandez, Jimmy Zuniga, Ruth Ann Leal, Chana Finch, Paul Leal, Jesse Leal, Genie Riffe, Joey Leal, Beatrice Reinhardt, Gabriel Garcia, Lionel Garcia, Julie Garcia, Jake Garcia, and Mario Garcia.

Elia truly touched the lives of all who knew her and will forever be cherished by numerous great-nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews, family, and friends.

A visitation will be held at 9:00 am on Monday, May 27, 2024 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Nixon, Texas.  A Rosary will be recited at 9:30 am and Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am.  Interment will directly follow at the Latin American Cemetery and a reception will be held at the City of Nixon Community Center.  Pallbearers are Paul Leal, Jesse Leal, Joey Leal, Justin Leal, Chris Willoughby, and Matthew Finch.  Honorary Pallbearers representing the families of her sisters are Sylvia Jackson for Maria Martinez, Mary Jane Bustamante for Maya Bustamante, Isabel Zuniga for Guadalupe Zuniga, Ruth Ann Leal for Theodora Leal and Beatrice Reinhardt for Sally Garcia.
