Charles Vaner “Charlie” Fuller, of Floresville, Texas, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully at 86 on May 22, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Charlie was larger than life, an epic storyteller, and a huge practical joker.
Born on December 20, 1938, to Asa and Hattie Fuller, Charlie was a proud son of Texas whose roots grew deep into the land, milking cows on his parents’ dairy farm and hauling hay with his brothers. From his early years he embraced hard work.
Charlie attended college and played football at Southwest Texas State University (now Texas State University), where he met the love of his life, Alma “Jean” Henderson. He knew instantly that she was the one and married her as quickly as he could. Together, they shared 64 wonderful years of marriage, working and playing together, building a life centered on fun, laughter, and unwavering love. Their bond was the foundation of the family that Charlie cherished above all else.
He and Jean owned a real estate business where Charlie focused on his passion of farms and ranches and later owned and operated a liquid fertilizer company. Prior to his retirement, Charlie was a Field Supervisor for the Texas Railroad Commission.
Charlie had a gift for finding humor in the everyday. His legendary storytelling, playful pranks, and bold sense of humor made him the heart of every gathering. He could turn a quiet evening on the porch into a night of roaring laughter, and he never missed a chance to play a practical joke - where anyone was fair game.
A true outdoorsman at heart, he loved hunting and fishing, including training bird dogs and guiding hunts. He also enjoyed boating and water sports, teaching countless friends and relatives how to water ski.
Charlie is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Jean Fuller; his three daughters, all of whom he adored: Elizabeth and husband Mike, Cindy and husband Chuck, and Jennifer and husband Chris; his seven grandchildren: Heather (Andy), Briana (Matt), Chandler, Hannah (Hunter), Carter, Rachel, and Chas; and six great-grandchildren who lit up his world.
He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, and countless lifelong friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Asa and Hattie Fuller, and his brothers, Asa G. Fuller and Bert Fuller.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Wilson County Expo Center on June 6, 2025 at 2:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the charity of your choice in his memory. Some of Charlie’s favorites were: Shriner Children’s Texas, Texas State University Athletic Scholarship Fund, Floresville Academic Scholarship Fund, the Wilson County No Kill Animal Shelter, the American Heart Association, and the American Cancer Society.
He was one of a kind. And we were the lucky ones.
