Obituary

Carl Arthur Hoefelmeyer, 78, of Poth, Texas, passed away in Floresville, Texas.

Born July 5, 1947, to Erwin and Enola (Hierholzer) Hoefelmeyer, Carl grew up in Poth and earned a degree in Business from Texas Lutheran College. He began raising Angus cattle at age 15 following the death of his father. Ranching and raising livestock remained his lifelong passion. Carl was recognized as a Historic Herdsman breeder in the American Angus Association in 2013.

He married Nelda Sue (Cook), his devoted and loving wife of 56 years, on June 28, 1969. Carl was preceded in death by his parents Erwin and Enola Hoefelmeyer; his son Erwin William; and his brother William (Billy) Erwin Hoefelmeyer.

He is survived by his wife Nelda; daughter Karla Sue Blackstock and her husband John Blackstock; and grandchildren Parker Stone (Daisey), Peyton Blackstock, Alexis Hoefelmeyer, and Addison Hoefelmeyer (Martinez).

In 2012, Carl was honored with a 50-year Historic Herdsman Award from the American Angus Association. Carl was a Wilson County Farm Bureau Board member for more than 50 years. He was awarded the Texas Farm Bureau Pioneer award for his dedication to farming and ranching. He also served on the Wilson County Junior Livestock Show Board.

Carl devoted his life to the Lord through his service to St. John Lutheran Church where he was a council member for many years. He was baptized, confirmed and married in St. John.

Carl was always eager to see friends from the community. He loved his class reunions where he could enjoy their camaraderie. His love of card games and a good game of 42 with friends and family.

A visitation will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, March 31, 2026 at St. John Lutheran Church in Poth, Texas. A funeral service will begin at 11:00 am and interment will directly follow at St. John Lutheran Cemetery.
