Betty Jean Kirby

Betty Jean Kirby passed into the loving arms of the Lord on August 6, 2025 in La Vernia, Texas at the age of 94.  She was the daughter of Helen & Eugene Boog, born on July 26, 1931 in Fort F.E. Warren, Wyoming.  Betty lived a full and joyful life marked by a devotion to her family, her faith, and the many friendships she cherished along the way.  A loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, Betty’s presence lit up every room she entered. Whether she was bowling alongside friends, creating quilts to share with others, or wrapping her family in warmth, she did it all with grace and love.  Her faith was also a guiding light in her life, and she held St. Nino’s Catholic Church and Resurrection Catholic Church very close to her heart.

Betty was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Loyd “Ray” Kirby; her son, Loyd “Wayne” Kirby; her parents, Helen & Eugene Boog; and her brother, William “Bill” Stern.  She is survived by her loving sons, Gary Kirby and wife, Cynthia, and Roger “Rusty” Kirby.  She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Tabatha Kunkle, Priscilla J. Vorron, Jennifer Tyler (Dylan), Jeffrey Kirby (Rebecca), Michael Kirby (Charise), Brian Kirby (Jessica), and Ethan Vernon, and her great-grandchildren, Zoey, Emerson, Lilli, Rayland, Autumn, Austin, Charlie, Oliver, Brian Jr., Brianna, Jessy, Tiffany, Jordan, and Shayla.  She will also be forever cherished by her sister, Doreen Castro.  Betty was a bright light in the lives of all who knew her, including numerous  nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

A Funeral Mass will be held at a later date.  The Kirby family would like to thank the community for their kindness and help in keeping Betty’s beautiful memories alive.
